About me

I am an experienced therapist with over 30 years of experience in the field, specializing in cognitive analytic psychotherapy. I work with adults and young people within family and work systems across various settings. My original training and career were in the Creative Arts, a foundation that continues to deeply influence my therapeutic approach.

For over a decade, I dedicated my efforts to Action on Addiction (formerly known as Clouds House), where I served as an Addictions Specialist. During this time, I provided support to individuals grappling with substance abuse, as well as to their families, friends, and employers.

In parallel, I have honed my facilitation skills over two decades, leading group therapy sessions aimed at fostering a supportive and conducive environment for healing and growth. Additionally, I contributed my expertise to the Improving Access to Psychological Therapy (IAPT) program for two years, extending psychological support to individuals in need.

My professional journey has taken me into challenging forensic settings, where I've engaged with adult offenders, offering valuable insights as an expert witness in parole hearings. Within this complex landscape, I've developed a keen understanding of psychological well-being and rehabilitation prospects within the criminal justice system.

A special interest of mine lies in 'process addictions,' encompassing gambling, eating disorders, love addiction, and other compulsive behaviors. This interest has driven me to co-produce training materials on group therapy, mindfulness, and addiction treatment, and to contribute to published works exploring the intricacies of 'love addiction.'

In the National Health Service (NHS), I've accumulated several years of experience in complex adult mental health settings. In addition to providing therapeutic interventions, I've taken on roles as a supervisor and trainer, nurturing the growth of aspiring therapists and contributing to the advancement of the mental health profession.

Outside of my NHS role, I also maintain a private practice, where I provide personalized therapy to clients seeking support in various areas of mental health and well-being. As a cognitive analytic psychotherapist, I am deeply committed to evidence-based interventions and holistic well-being for my clients. My dedication to improving access to mental health support is reflected in my ongoing engagement with workshops, training sessions, and clinical practice.

How I work

In my practice, I guide individuals on a journey of healing and self-discovery, providing a safe haven where vulnerability is celebrated, not feared. My approach hinges on genuine connection, viewing each person not merely as a patient, but as a unique individual with their own narrative and struggles.I listen by attuning to the subtle nuances of spoken and unspoken words. Through compassionate support and gentle encouragement, I help untangle the knots of inner turmoil, guiding clients toward insights that empower positive change. Working relationally, I recognize the therapeutic relationship as paramount, leveraging its transformative potential to "rewire and fire" new, healthier patterns of behavior. Ultimately, my goal is to foster empowerment and self-awareness, equipping clients with the resilience and understanding to embrace life authentically and courageously beyond the therapy room.
